Nearby McKellar Village's Balsam Trail is an excellent local attraction.  It's Free.

Quickly drive over from Cabin on Manitou and enter the Trail's Parking Lot off Balsam Road. Or... drop the hiking crew off at Centre Road's Trail Stairs, opting to rendevous with them along Hwy 124, where the trail has an option to exit.

Our family prefers to turnaround and retrace our steps, enjoying all the rugged wilderness beauty, once again.  

There is some boardwalking, but most is semi rugged over rock, thru meadows and along farmer's fields.  It is not difficult.

Autumn is our favorite time to hike the trail because there are no bugs, many leaves have fallen which allows for better visiability and we know that after the walk we can quickly arrive back to the cabin, light a fire and enjoy Manitouwabing Lake's magical paradise.
