Massage Therapy Students complete Specialty Clinic aimed at mental illness recovery
Student therapists form Sutherland & Chan, School of Massage Therapy compiled a report after the completion of a Specialty Clinic, they offered to residents of George Herman House.
Throughout the internship, emphasis during each treatment was dedicated to each patient’s mental & emotional well being, as apposed to just the Women's musculoskeletal impairments.
Following the program, students concluded that they not only gained massage experience but also gained a deeper understanding and respect for individuals who are working through mental and emotional turmoil.
A lesson learned, is that although mental health struggles can be hidden, emotional trauma, often manifests as pain.
“even the softest touch can make a big difference to a patient who is emotionally hurt.”
